CHESSMEN, THE - I Need You There / Sad

BK 1012

Sello: Bismark

7"

The Chessmen appears in almost every story on the Dallas music scene in the mid to late 1960s. Famous at the time for their live shows, the Chessmen are now remembered by members who rose to national fame: Doyle Bramhall played and wrote songs for Stevie Ray Vaughan; Bill Etheridge played bass with ZZ Top before Dusty Hill; and Jimmie Vaughan was in the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

Beyond their legend, the entire legacy they left in 45 years consists of a couple of singles and some photos of the band. Their second album, "I Need You There" / "Sad", was their best, recorded before any of the people mentioned above were in the band. Chessmen's history is confusing with many personnel changes, but these vinyl slices they recorded are true jewels of the garage.
